RP BOE Meeting (September 4, 2007)

The meeting started at 7:30 p.m. with board members Katherine Panetta, Luane Cindea, Michael Genovese, Kenneth Iachio, Nancy Kinloch, Judy Laganga, Barney Leinberger, and Roseann Rinaldi in attendance; Alex Balaban was not present. The other attendees were Patrick Spagnoletti, Susan Guercio, and Isabel Machado.

Public Participation
The public portion was open with a gentleman who wanted to discuss a matter which was referred to private conversation with Ms. Machado after the meeting was adjourned. There was no other public comment.

Items Proposed For Passage

  • Items (1) through (8) were voted on and passed.
  • Item (9) was voted on and passed with Kenneth Iachio abstaining.
  • Items (10) and (11) were voted on and passed.
  • Items (12) through (20) were initially grouped for passage with Patrick Spagnoletti making a comment on item (20). He stated that all workshops must be approved of ahead of time. At that time Kenneth Iachio amended the motion for passage and requested that item (20) be voted on individually. The motion was seconded and items (12) through (19) were voted on and passed.
  • Kenneth Iachio commented that he felt item (20) was a slap in the face to volunteers and mentioned that it would deter volunteerism since this item would place a burden on the volunteer. The vote was called and Kenneth Iachio voted in the affirmative with the condition that the board put forth a resolution on the absurdity of item (20). Seven members voted ‘aye’ with Barney Leinberger voting ‘nay’.

Committee Assignments

  • Katherine Panetta mentioned with regard to the Facilities committee that she wanted to commend the work done on the high school.
  • Kenneth Iachio mentioned under Liaisons that Dad’s Club was having a bus trip to the Tropicana at Atlantic City on September 16, 2007. the cost is $30. Anyone interested should contact the Dad’s Club at dadsclub@rpsd.org
