RP BOE Meeting (November 20, 2007)

All board members were in attendance. The meeting was opened up to public discussion with no member of the public coming before the board.

For the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Spagnoletti turned matters over to Judi Laganga who presented Certificates of Recognition to Roselle Park students Shannon Kennedy and Melissa Rivera for their artwork contribution to the 2008 Art Educators of NJ Calendar. Luanne Cindea then presented Certificates of Recognition to students who participated as readers at the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library on Halloween.

Mr. Fucci and Mrs. Costa, from the Roselle Park High School, made a presentation before the board made a presentation before the board regarding a possible class trip in 2009. The board asked questions regarding the specifics and details of the itinerary. Mr. Fucci and Mrs. Costa answered the questions posed. The board asked for a more detailed presentation and Mr. Spagnoletti stated that any questions that board members had should be e-mailed to him so that he can direct them to Mr. Fucci so that they can be addressed before the next board meeting.

Agenda Items 1 through 7 were moved, voted on, and carried.

Agenda Items 8 through 10 were moved, voted on, and approved.

Agenda Items 11 through 17 were moved, voted on, and carried with Mr. Alex Balaban abstaining on item 15.

Committee Assignments

  • Alex Balaban attended the Union County Educational Services Commission (UCESC) on October 3rd and November 7th. A highlight of the meeting were that the UCESC accepts a Strategic Plan for school districts. The county plan had nine (9) objectives. Mr. Balaban’s report and notes will be available for board members to review.
  • Barney Leinberger spoke with Mr. Florio regarding the RPTV studio at the Roselle Park High School. The studio has some old TVs and some that are not even functioning. Mr. Leinberger will speak with the PTSA to see if they can assist with upgrading equipment. Additionally, he will look into the funds that should be available through the Comcast grant given to the borough. Mr. Alex Balaban expressed his disappointment with Televue and their confusing format for notification and broadcasting of borough events (football games, announcements, etc.) Mr. Leinberger stated that perhpas residents should go to the town council, as residents, and express their concerns with TV-34. Mr. Ken Iachio asked if there was a list of items that was available so that he could see if the Roselle Park Dad’s Club could see what they could help with; Mr. Leinberger stated there is one and he will present to them as well.
  • Mr. Kenneth Iachio stated that on Thursday, the 80th consecutive Roselle Park vs. Roselle football game will take place on thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. The Dad’s Club also held their annual Roselle-Roselle Park coaches meeting.

There was no continuing business.

Mrs. Cindea, under new business, asked for a resolution to be made (under new state guidelines and regulations) for herself and Judi Laganga to attend the Union County School Board Association (UCSBA) “Financing Special Education” on November 28th, 2007. The fee, per person, is $28. The board stated they would adopt a resolution which would allow Mrs. Cindea and Mrs. Laganga to attend the forum.

Alex Balaban wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and asked everyone to remember those less fortunate than themselves and to give to the food pantry at the Casano Community Center.

The board wished everyone a happy holiday and the meeting was adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
